Regulations & Guidance
Fire doors are a vital part of any building’s passive fire protection system: they help to stop the spread of fire and smoke, shielding escape routes and giving occupants the time needed to evacuate safely.

According to the UK’s Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 (which implement key recommendations from fire safety reviews) any building with two or more domestic premises and common parts must have effective fire doors in place and clearly maintained.
Additionally, the UK’s Approved Document B (Volumes 1 & 2) sets out where fire doors are required, the rating (for example FD30 or FD60) and their performance standards. A correctly installed, well-maintained fire door can literally save lives by delaying fire spread and giving vital escape time — failure to comply not only puts people at risk, it can also result in legal liabilities and invalidated insurance.
